Tianwen Sun, the creative mind behind Omakase, drew inspiration from the love story of Sakura rain. The design of Omakase is a bold departure from traditional ideas, challenging widely accepted standards of behavior. It's a design that not only erases the sadness of the story but also presents a fresh perspective on restaurant interiors.
The unique properties of Omakase lie in its design concept of Sakura and dew. Sakura petals and dewdrops are creatively combined in the glass partition, creating a virtual-real synthesis and crystal-clear decorative effects. The design stands out for its environmental consideration in the choice of decorative materials.
The realization of Omakase's design involved the use of glass, paint, and tatami. The multiple layers of glass reflect light and shadow, creating a dream-like environment. The building is equipped with a central air-conditioning system, fire sprinkler, and kitchen fittings, ensuring a safe dining space. Despite its small size of 140 square meters spread over two floors, the restaurant offers a captivating dining experience.
The design interaction of Omakase is a sensory feast. The boundless pink Sakura contrasts with the golden Tatami room, creating an illusion of a Sakura labyrinth. Dynamic lighting enhances the blooming Sakura and exquisitely carved dewdrops, making the environment poetic and captivating.
The design work for Omakase started in August 2018 and was completed in January 2019 in Shanghai, China. Despite the challenge of the small area, the design team, led by Sun Tianwen and including Cao Xindi and Liu Dong, managed to create a visually stunning and romantic dining space. The entire space is like a freehand brushwork painting, where every diner becomes a part of the scenery.
Omakase's design excellence was recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
